From 1983 to 1986, the mythical physicist and instructor Richard Feynman gave a path at Caltech referred to as “Potentialities and barriers of Computing Machines.”Although the lectures are over ten years outdated, lots of the fabric is undying and offers a “Feynmanesque” assessment of many typical and a few not-so-standard themes in machine technological know-how. those contain computability, Turing machines (or as Feynman acknowledged, “Mr. Turing’s machines”), info concept, Shannon’s Theorem, reversible computation, the thermodynamics of computation, the quantum limits to computation, and the physics of VLSI units. Taken jointly, those lectures signify a distinct exploration of the elemental obstacles of electronic computers.Feynman’s philosophy of studying and discovery comes via strongly in those lectures. He continually issues out the advantages of being silly with recommendations and dealing out strategies to difficulties in your own-before taking a look at the again of the e-book for the solutions. As Feynman says within the lectures: “If you retain proving stuff that others have performed, getting self assurance, expanding complexities of your solutions-for the joys of it-then in the future you’ll flip round and discovers that no-one truly did that one! And that’s the best way to turn into a working laptop or computer scientist.”

Johan wanted a name for the meetup—something that would make a good Twitter hashtag: short, memorable, and without too many Google hits so that a search on the name would quickly find the meetup. He asked for suggestions on the #cassandra IRC channel and got a few, selecting the suggestion of “NoSQL” from Eric Evans (a developer at Rackspace, no connection to the DDD Eric Evans). While it had the disadvantage of being negative and not really describing these systems, it did fit the hashtag criteria.

Aggregate Data Models A data model is the model through which we perceive and manipulate our data. For people using a database, the data model describes how we interact with the data in the database. This is distinct from a storage model, which describes how the database stores and manipulates the data internally. In an ideal world, we should be ignorant of the storage model, but in practice we need at least some inkling of it—primarily to achieve decent performance. In conversation, the term “data model” often means the model of the specific data in an application.
