In my Fifth and mv Sixth Form years, I was having so good a time at school that I hated to go home for the holidays and spent a large part of the summers visiting my friends.

I know how boring and confusing it becomes to read about family connections. A whole other side of my early life I shall leave, in A PRELUDE this volume, untouched: my memories of upstate New Yark-Lewis and Oneida Counties-in which my mother's parents had lived and in which we spent every summer.
